Overview
Open Mic League is a music competition and artist discovery platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it when people create accounts, submit performances, vote, join weekly battles, receive notifications, or browse public artist content on the service.
We wrote this in plain English on purpose. It is meant to be readable, practical, and easy to update before public beta. If something here conflicts with applicable law, we will follow the law.
What We Collect
Account information
When you create an account, we may collect information such as your username, email address, password credentials or authentication data, email verification status, and account settings.
Artist submission and content information
If you submit content, we may collect your stage name, submission titles, notes, battle callouts, uploaded media files, external media links, file metadata, competition participation history, and other information needed to host, review, display, stream, and operate your submission inside Open Mic League.
Usage, log, and device information
We may automatically collect information about how people use the service, such as IP address, browser type, device information, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, referral pages, timestamps, actions taken, crash or error logs, and general session or analytics data.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies, session tools, and similar technologies at a high level to keep users signed in, remember preferences, protect accounts, measure performance, and understand how the platform is being used.
Why We Collect Information
- To create and secure accounts, verify email addresses, and support sign-in.
- To accept, process, host, review, display, stream, rank, and moderate artist submissions and battle clips.
- To run competitions, weekly battles, voting features, notifications, and artist-facing tools.
- To prevent fraud, cheating, abuse, manipulation, infringement, and other misuse of the service.
- To troubleshoot bugs, analyze performance, improve the product, and understand audience activity at a high level.
- To comply with legal obligations, enforce our rules, and respond to valid requests from regulators, courts, or law enforcement.
How We Use Information
We use collected information to operate and improve Open Mic League. That includes:
- showing public artist names, submissions, battle clips, vote-related results, and related content within the service
- sending transactional messages such as verification, password reset, submission, or account-related emails
- supporting community safety, moderation review, copyright handling, and dispute resolution
- measuring what features are being used and where the product needs stability or usability improvements
Cookies, Sessions, Security, and Analytics
Open Mic League uses session and security tools to keep accounts working and help prevent unauthorized access. We may also use basic analytics or event logging to understand page performance, feature usage, upload issues, and abuse signals. These tools are used at a practical operational level rather than to build unrelated advertising profiles.
Your Choices
- You can choose what profile or submission information you provide, subject to fields required to operate the service.
- You can usually stop receiving non-essential product messages by adjusting your account preferences when those options are available.
- You can request account deletion, a privacy review, or help with your data by contacting
privacy@openmicleague.com. This is a placeholder inbox and should be finalized with a monitored address before public beta.
Retention
We keep information for as long as it is reasonably needed to operate the platform, maintain competition history, resolve disputes, enforce our rules, comply with law, and protect the security and integrity of the service. We may delete or de-identify information when it is no longer reasonably needed.
Children and Minors
Open Mic League is not intended for children under 13. If we learn that we collected personal information directly from a child under 13 without appropriate authorization, we will take steps to delete it. Users between 13 and the age of majority in their jurisdiction should use the service only with appropriate parent or guardian permission.
Policy Updates and Contact
We may update this Privacy Policy as Open Mic League evolves toward public beta and beyond. If we make material changes, we may update the effective date, post the revised version here, and take additional notice steps when appropriate.
